Atymtai Kisanov

Atymtai Kisanov (1906, Ili district, Komsomol village, Almaty region – May 7, 1995, Almaty) was a Soviet economic, state and public figure. He was born into a simple cattle-breeding family and was one of eight surviving siblings. He began his career at the age of just 16, serving as a village executive, laborer, chairman of the village council, and chairman of the Ili district trade union council of Almaty region. Since 1922, he has been actively involved in economic, social and political activities. From 1922 to 1981, he held various responsible positions: prosecutor of the Kaskelen district, head of the party office and inspector of the Kaskelen district party committee, chairman of the Lenin district executive committee of Almaty, Minister of Social Security of the Kazakh SSR, chairman of the collective farm in the Almaty region, and first deputy minister of housing and communal services of the Kazakh SSR. He was also elected a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the Kazakh SSR of the 2nd–4th convocations. From 1968 until the end of his life, he lived in Almaty. A memorial plaque was later installed on the wall of the house where he lived.

Atymtai Kisanov's work was highly appreciated and he was awarded several prestigious awards. Among them are the Order of Lenin, the Order of the October Revolution, twice the Order of the Red Banner of Labor and the Order of Friendship of Peoples. He made a significant contribution to the development of the social protection system in Kazakhstan, support for veterans and large families, as well as to the improvement of the housing and communal services sector. Kisanov's name occupies a special place in the political and social history of Almaty and the Almaty region.

A 1900-meter-long street in the Turksib district of Almaty was named after the Soviet economic, state and political figure Atymtai Kisanov.
